Training Week #13 (Triathlon Build Week/Marathon Recovery Week/Vacation Week)

This one was tricky. I had just completed a marathon and went straight home to spend a week with my aging mother (turning 90 this year). She lives in Canada and on her own. I try to do as much as I can during those few days to help keep her independent.o there were other priorities besides training. She also views my training schedule as “foolishness”. I had no access to a bike (well, I could have tracked down a spin class or even a stationary bike, but never bothered). Running was the easiest activity (now that the weather was cooperating). An Olympic swimming pool just opened in town ($5 for a day pass), so I took a day and got in a record breaking 6 km swim. I tried to go again, but there was a Provincial Diving competition, so the pool was closed to the public. I was able to get my first long bike of the year when I got home…75 miles! Very pleased! My speed seems to have improved as well-routinely seeing cruising speeds in the 17-19 mph…and cracking 20 mph was not uncommon (last year was cruising at 14-16 mph). I guess all that time this winter on the trainer did help! I need to spend more time cycling and cut back on the running a little for now. Stick a little closer to the program and see where this journey takes me. However, if look look at the schedule and what I did, this week was a mess…

The Plan:
Tuesday-1:00 swim/0:45 run
Wednesday-0:45 bike/0:15 run (with transition)
Thursday-1:00 swim/1:00 bike
Friday-1:00 run
Saturday-3:00 bike/0:30 run
Sunday-0:30 bike/1:15 run

2 hour swim, 5:15 hour bike, 3:45 hour run
Total-11 hours/11 activities

What I did:
Tuesday-1:16 run (7.2 miles)
Wednesday-2:45 swim (3.75 miles)
Thursday-2:20 run (13.1 miles)
Saturday-1:01 run (6.3 miles)

3.75 mile swim, 75.1 mile bike, 26.6 mile run (% change from week 12: +7.1%, +62.2%, -31.1%)
Total-12:15 hours/105.45 miles/5 activities

Grand Totals:
